Silas Told (1711-78)

Silas Told was born in Bristol, the son of a doctor. After spending eleven years at sea, Told settled in London as a clerk and was converted to Methodism in 1740. In 1744 he took charge of the Charity School at the Foundery and was also prominent in prison work, particularly with condemned prisoners and their families.
