Sir John Randles (1857-1945)

Sir John Randles was born at Boston in Lincolnshire, a son of the Wesleyan minister Marshall Randles, president of Conference in 1896.

A successful ironmaster, Randles was for many years Chairman of the Workington Iron and Steel Company. He served as a Conservative Member of Parliament between 1900 and 1910, and as a Unionist between 1912 and 1922. He was knighted in 1905.

Randles was a devout Methodist who served on a number of Connexional committees.
