John Hutchings (b.1716)

John Hutchings was born at Woolmiston in Somerset, the son of Richard Hutchings. He matriculated from Pembroke College Oxford in 1734 and by 1737 was a zealous member of the Holy Club. After graduation in 1738, Hutchings took Holy Orders and engaged in a close involvement with the early stages of the evangelical movement. He worked in close association with Whitefield in Bristol but felt unable to embark on an open-air ministry. Hutchings eventually joined the Moravians and then faded from the historical record.
