John Fletcher (1818-1904)

John Fletcher was born in Wednesbury, Staffordshire, the son of the Methodist minister James Fletcher and nephew to Jabez Bunting. In his early life, Fletcher was intended for a career in medicine, but at the age of nineteen felt the call to preach. He candidated for the ministry in 1839 at the Birmingham District meeting.

Fletcher exercised an active circuit ministry until superannuation in 1884. He spent his retirement in London where for eight years he continued to act as the pastor of the Grove Mission in Deptford.

He suffered a stroke in 1903 and died on March 2 1904.
