John W. Cloake (1779-1846)
John W. Cloake was born at Pilaton in Cornwall. He was converted in early life and served as a local preacher before entering the itinerancy in 1808. Cloake's obituary in the Conference minutes describes him as an 'evangelical' preacher with a gift for 'public and social prayer'. His circuit ministry was exercised principally in the south-west of England
He superannuated in 1840 after suffering from a paralytic seizure. Cloake attended the Conference of 1846 in Bristol but fell seriously ill and died soon after.
