William Charles Bird (1880-1982)

William Charles Bird was born at Bideford in Devon. He was educated at Cardiff Higher Grade School and spent one year as a lay worker in the London Mission before entering Handsworth Ministerial Training College in 1902. Upon ordination, Bird served as a missionary in Ceylon from 1906 to 1923. After his return to England he laboured as a circuit minister until superannuation in 1949, but continued to be actively involved in missionary work as editor of the Ministers' Missionary Bulletin and Missionary Secretary of the Third London District.

Bird spent his retirement in Birkenhead and continued to preach until a short time before his death at the age of 102.
