Prince Lee Collection

7,000 items (dispersed).

The collection was bequeathed in 1870 by James Prince Lee (1804–1869), Bishop of Manchester.

It is mainly devoted to biblical literature, theology and history. Prince Lee collected a large number of works relating to the Manchester diocese, and there are several large folio volumes containing engravings and plans illustrating the history and architecture of the diocese, interleaved with the portion of Bishop Gastrell’s Notitia Cestriensis which relates to it.

The collection was, however, a general one and includes books on mathematics, physics, chemistry, natural history and medicine.
