Edward Freeman Printed Collection

6,500 items (dispersed).

The library of Edward Augustus Freeman (1823–1892), the 19th-century historian and commentator on a vast range of political and social issues, constituted the foundation of Owens College Library’s history holdings when it was acquired by the Whitworth Legatees in 1892.

The collection is especially rich in medieval history, and played a significant role in the development of the 'Manchester History School’.
