Ashton Textile Employers' Association Archive

Date range: 1891-1969.

Records of the Ashton Textile Employers' Association, formerly the Ashton and District Cotton Employers' Association which was formed in 1891 in the face of increasing trade union activity in the mills of Ashton-under-Lyne in south-east Lancashire.

The Glossop, Hyde & District Cotton Employers' Association amalgamated with the Ashton Association in 1921.

The archive comprises:

  • minute books of the Ashton and Glossop Associations
  • a volume concerning holiday entitlements at mills
  • papers relating to strikes and employment agreements
  • published works on the cotton industry

There is also a small quantity of material relating to the Manchester and District, Stockport and District, and Wigan and District Cotton Employers' Associations.
