Glass plate negative collection
This collection of photographs has a 'snapshot aesthetic', presenting a family-album style account of everyday life of a wealthy family in the early 20th Century. This collection of photographs was gifted to the Library in 1983 by a Mrs.Dunkerly, whose father had inherited the Mere Estate.
The collection of Glass Plate Negatives was rediscovered during a review of the Photography Collections. Over 450 glass plate negatives have been cleaned, rehoused and stored in specially designed and monitored photographic storage. These negatives have also been fully digitised using specially designed equipment.
By using the power of social media websites such as Flickr, we hope to be able to make all the images available online for a possible crowd-sourcing project.
