The Main Library
The Main Library is located at the end of Burlington Street, just off Oxford Road between the University Refectory and Whitworth Hall.
Free parking spaces for disabled users are available at the rear of the Mansfield Cooper Building, adjacent to the Library. A member of security staff at the entrance to the South West Car Park can provide access to the service road leading to these parking spaces. Staff are on duty from 08.15 am to 16.30 pm, Monday to Friday. At other times it may be possible to park in Burlington Street, where vehicle access is restricted. Again, a member of staff on duty at the entrance can give assistance.
All floors of the Library are accessible by lifts. Wheelchair users may experience difficulty in some sections of the Library. You can contact Library staff at any of the Information Desks if you require assistance.
Accessible toilet facilities can be found on Blue 1, to the right of the computer cluster and near to the 8 PCs for which disabled students registered at the Disability Support Office (DSO) have priority use. The facilities include an electronic mobile hoist.
Entry to the Library
There is a swing door to the left of the revolving doors at the entrance to the Library. Within the Library a gate provides a means of entry for wheelchair users and others who are unable to use the turnstiles. The gate is controlled by staff at the Reception Desk who can arrange for readers to operate the gate using their Library card.
Library induction
Library induction programmes are available for all new staff and students. You should contact your Academic Liaison Librarian to arrange a visit. Visits can be arranged before the beginning of the academic year.
Library guides
Any guide which the Library produces can be made available in large print, on cassette, in braille and on floppy disk from the Reference and Information Point on Blue Area Floor 1. Requests should normally be made in advance as it may not be possible to supply a guide in a different format immediately.
