The Alan Gilbert Learning Commons is an architecturally exciting and cutting edge learning environment based on our Oxford Road campus.
Visitors are welcome in the Learning Commons open areas. The café and reception areas are easily accessible to all visitors between 9am - 9pm Monday to Friday, and 9am - 5pm at weekends.
We are happy to show visitors around the Learning Commons, to arrange a tour please contact us via Library Help:
Our students can enjoy 24/7 access to the Learning Commons throughout the academic year.
Drinks and snacks are available from the vending machines on all floors when the café is closed.
The Learning Commons offers a unique and comfortable working environment for independent and group study with 400 fixed workstations, extensive break-out style and flexible open plan areas with multimedia facilities and 30 exclusive learning rooms available for group work.
All learning rooms are equipped with multimedia screens, a PC and dry wipe boards. These rooms are available exclusively to students and are always best booked in advance through My Manchester to avoid disappointment.
For University staff
We encourage University staff to enjoy everything that the Learning Commons has to offer, whether this is our café and outside seating areas with WiFi access or to tour the facilities in full.
University staff may sign in up to two guests or visitors on their behalf and for larger groups we are more than happy to arrange a tour of the building.
