English MS 92
Apocalypse with Commentary, end of 14th/beginning of 15th century
An Apocalypse with commentary, bearing certain similarities to the earlier Wycliffe version, but with many differences. Each section of text is underlined in red and followed by a section of commentary. There are usually three or four sections in each chapter.
There is one 3-line initial in blue ink with red penwork flourishes on f. 1r; there are numerous 2-line initials in red. The manuscript is housed in a binding of reversed calf, blocked in gold with the arms of Sir Edward Dering on both covers.
Former owners include Sir Edward Dering (1598-1644), antiquary and religious controversialist; Bertram, 4th Earl of Ashburnham (1797-1878) (Appendix no. 26); and Henry Yates Thompson (1838-1928).
