Specialist finance resources
The following databases are specialist research databases available for registered final year undergraduate/postgraduate students and academic staff at Manchester Business School.These databases provide very detailed current/historic information for a wide range of company and financial market data items and some do require a level of programming expertise to extract the data. Access to the databases (and specialist research support) is provided through the Finance Zone located within the Eddie Davies Library
- Bloomberg: Current and historical financial information on individual equities, stock market indices, fixed-income securities, currencies, commodities, and futures for both international and domestic markets, (booking required).
- BoardEx: Company board details for US, UK and European quoted companies.
- CSMAR - China Securities Market & Accounting Reseach (via GTA): Access to 24 datasets providing chinese stock market financial data includes stock market series, bond series and corporate research series.
- CSMAR - China Securities Market & Accounting Research (via WRDS): Access to 4 CSMAR datasets including Stock Market Trading & Financial Databases and China Fund Market Research (open end and close end) Fund data.
- Compustat (via WRDS): More than 300 annual and 100 quarterly income Statements, balance sheets, cash flow, and supplemental data items on more than 24,000 publicly held companiesfinancial data on over 14,000 North American companies.
- CRSP (Center for Research in Security Prices): Monthly/annual security prices, returns, and volume data for the NYSE, AMEX and Nasdaq stock markets. Additional CRSP files provide stock indices, beta- and cap-based portfolio, treasury bond and risk-free rates, and mutual fund databases.
- Datastream: Specialist research analysis database providing current/historical financial data for international companies /indicies and bond data.
- Execucomp (via WRDS): Detailed executive compensation data for North American companies from 1992, including salary, bonus, options, incentive plans and pensions.
- Factset Excel Connect: International forecasting data for over 20,000 quoted companies, (booking required).
- I/B/E/S: Historic earnings estimates and forecasts for internationally quoted companies dating back to 1976 (contact data specialist for further details).
- London Share Price Database: Monthly data on more than 7000 UK shares, (contact data specialist for further information).
- Riskmetrics (via WRDS): Provides corporate governance data for US companies, including governance, directors, voting results and shareholder proposal data. The database mainly covers from 1997, and companies in the S&P 1500 index.
- SDC Platinum: International M&A data
- Wharton Research Data Service (WRDS): Provides a powerful search engine to research a wide range of data sources including CRSP, Compustat, Amadeus, and Federal Reserve Bank reports for detailed international company financial information in addition to economic, banking and stock market data. Accessing Specialist Financial Research Databases
Postgraduate students can access all the above databases within the Finance Zone at the Eddie Davies Library, note booking may be required.
Undergraduates can obtain research assistance and access to Datastream & Bloomberg via the Precinct Library. Undergraduate access to datasets only available in the Eddie Davies Library must be arranged in advance via your course tutor.
