Who can use the building?
The café area in the foyer in the Learning Commons is open to all.
Admittance to the Learning Commons is limited to current staff and students of The University of Manchester holding a valid University ID card.
Silent study zone for the exam period.
The Oxford Road side of each floor in the Alan Gilbert Learning Commons has been designated as a silent study zone until the end of the exam period.
If you use the Oxford Road side of the building please not to talk, use devices that can be heard by others, or do anything to disturb others studying in those areas.
The other areas of each floor such as the PC clusters, study rooms and seated areas are still available for group study.
Training
The Alan Gilbert Learning Commons will host a series of training workshops covering a variety of academic and transferable skills.
These workshops will include training on revision/study skills, note-taking and other topics and will be developed by the Learning Commons team in partnership with others across the University.

The usual hours of opening for the Learning Commons are:
- Term time: open 24/7
- Out of term: Monday to Friday 9am - 9pm, Saturday/Sunday 9am - 5pm
