Una Naranja Mecánica
Anthony Burgess' best-known work is A Clockwork Orange.
Did you know that Anthony Burgess' famous work A Clockwork Orange had been translated into Russian - in four different versions? In the centenary year of famous Manchester alumnus Anthony Burgess (1917-1993) The University of Manchester Library has received a donation from the International Anthony Burgess Foundation of a collection of his novels, translated into a variety of languages, including Croatian, Czech, Estonian, Georgian, Japanese, Spanish, and Turkish.
The gift has been welcomed by Rebecca Tipton, Lecturer in Interpreting and Translation Studies at the Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies, who noted:
"We are currently in touch with scholars from abroad who have an interest in translations of Burgess’ work and to enrich our archives further would make us a good potential partner of choice in future research work and attract potential PhDs."
Look out for a small exhibition of book covers in the cabinet up on Green 3 in the Main Library, and listen out for a live performance of Burgess' music in the Library later in the year. You can find all our translated Anthony Burgess works in Library Search.
